Red Kite Camping

Back-to-basics Camping

Situated on the outskirts of Crazies Hill, a small village with pub, and located just a couple of miles from Henley-on-Thames, this is a small, no-frills, pop-up campsite set in glorious open countryside yet only 30 miles from Central London.

Watch the Red Kites circling overhead while getting back to basics:

No showers

No electricity

No wi-fi

No stress

Close to a selection of friendly pubs

and in walking distance to the River Thames and Thames path and Chiltern Way, this is the ideal campsite for walkers and cyclists. Dogs are welcome too!

Come and unwind in this beautiful part of England and experience an 'almost-wild' camping experience.

Camping how it used to be!

The campsite is set in a small field with panoramic views and has limited pitches to give you as much space as possible and few facilities so that you can experience a wild camping experience.

Tent campers and small campervans are welcome. Unfortunately, due to the narrow access and the tight turn into the field, motorhomes and caravans are not accepted.

Onsite there is a composting loo and access to fresh water, dark skies and wildlife.

Fires and bbqs are permitted as long as they are kept off the ground.

Helpful Information

Are dogs allowed?

Yes! Up to two well- behaved dogs per pitch are allowed but must be kept on a lead at all times and please clean up after them.

Tent sizes and awnings?

We are a small site so ask that you don’t bring large tents and the same applies for awnings as otherwise we may have to charge you for two pitches. Small pup tents/toilet tents are fine!

Why don’t you have showers/hardstanding/electric hookup?

We wanted to offer a complete weekend getaway where you can experience wild camping but with one or two necessities. Our aim is to make as little impact on nature as we can and let you destress when you’re here.

What is there to do in the area?

The market town of Henley-On-Thames is a 10 minute drive or 45 minute walk away (slightly longer but more picturesque if you take the Thames path). The pretty riverside village of Wargrave is also a 10 minute drive or 50 minute walk away. Windsor is just over half an hour away and Oxford is 45 minutes drive. The Thames path is a short walk away as is the Chiltern Way loop. Plus numerous walking and cycling routes  right on the doorstep.

Is there anywhere nearby to eat and drink?

The Horns at Crazies Hill (15 minutes walk) offers good food and drinks in a traditional village pub. Slightly further afield, The Flowerpot at Aston is an old-fashioned pub close to the Thames and The Dewdrop is tucked away in woodland and is a great stopping off point on a circular walk starting from the campsite. The Velolife cafe just over a mile away offers coffee, cake and toasties - and you can get your bike fixed there too! Henley and Wargrave have a selection of pubs and cafes.
